WALLS — The graveside service for Billy G. Jones (known to his nieces and nephews as (Uncle Dean) will be at 2 p.m. today at Hernando Memorial Park Cemetery. Jones died March 8 at his home. He was retired from Schlitz Brewing Company and V.A. Hospital in Clinton, Okla. He enjoyed playing softball, rodeos, bull riding, John Wayne, western music and playing various musical instruments and dancing the two-step. He leaves his wife, Robbie Jones of Walls; daughters, Deana Anderson of Coleman, Texas, Naomi Ables of Guntown, Leomi Smith of Saltillo, Sandy McGregor (Bob) of Hernando, Billie Stanley (Terry) of Gulfport and Ginger Beard (Biff) of Huntington, Texas; stepsons, William Hamilton Jr. (Shirlen) of Millington,Tenn. and G. Michael Hamilton (Debbie) of Frayser, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Linda Haley (Bob) of Bartlett, Tenn. and Tina Birdsong Crawford of Southaven; sister-in-law, Louise Jones of McKinney, Texas; mother-in-law, Louise Matheny of Frayser; 14 grandchildren, nine bonus grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 11 bonus great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and all his extended family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Louise Jones, his parents, John and Babe Jones, brother, Danny Wade Jones, three sons-in-law, Matt Anderson, Don Ables and Jimmy Smith.

Friend: 'He was beaten bad enough, it could have killed him'
An assault earlier this week has left many people shocked and devastated. A man was beaten and robbed near a wooded area in Gulfport Monday. Friends say the man was homeless and the attack happened in the middle of the day. One suspect, a Gulfport woman, is charged with aggravated assault and simple robbery. Police are still looking for at least two more male suspects.
