Obituary for John Kazanowski
John James Kazanowski, John James Kazanowski passed away at Alexian Village, Signal Mountain on March 23, 2014. He was born April 28, 1925 in Manchester, NH and resided there during his formative years. He joined the Navy a week before his 18th birthday and served in World War II.The G.I. Bill of Rights enabled him to attend the University of New Hampshire where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950. John married Alice Mary Mulligan on September 11, 1948. He involved in many community activities and served as Charter President of the Rochester NH Jaycees. John had a long career with General Electric taking his family from Somersworth, NH to New Orleans, Corpus Christi, TX and finally to Chattanooga,TN. He is preceded in death by his parents Stanislaw and Maryanna Lesniak Kazanowski, his siblings Kay Butler, Ann Voisard, Mary Larson and Eleanor Norelli and his wife Alice Mulligan Kazanowski. He is survived by his daughters Donna Kazanowski of Bloomington, MN; Ann Elizabeth Berg and husband Mark Berg of Louisville; Janey Kaster and husband Kevin Kaster of Foster City, CA and son David and wife Theresa Kazanowski of Avondale Estates, GA. Grandchildren Catherine Scott, Adam Sexter, Matthew Sexter; Christopher, Brian and Rose Kazanowski; Elizabeth Minor and Julianne Berg; Great Grandchildren Riley and Samantha Scott; and Aaron and Hanna Minor, sister Violet Laundry and special friend and companion Arlene Rucker. A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Alexian Village Chapel, Signal Mountain, TN. The interment will be at 3 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Obituary for Elois Jackson
Mary Elois Stephens Jackson, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014, at her residence in Falling Water. She was 109 years old. "Miss Lois" was born on the family farm near Manchester, Tennessee in 1905, but in 1916, the Great Depression caused the family to move by train to Chattanooga. There, she met her husband Luther H Jackson and shared nearly fifty years with him. They raised five children while he worked as a pipe fitter and she worked, first at the Knitting Mill and then later at Loveman's Department Store for over thirty years. Throughout her life, she was guided by her faith in God. On her 100th birthday, she said, "When I look back now, I realize how good He was to me because if He wasn't, I wouldn't be in the shape I am today if it hadn't been for His mercy and goodness." She gave that mercy and goodness back to the community. Mrs. Jackson a member of the Judge David Campbell Chapter, DAR. She was the oldest member of the National DAR; a member of American Legion World War I Widows, and taught Gleaner's Class at Falling Water Baptist Church for fifty years. Her many hobbies included gardening, sewing, and cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther H. Jackson; her parents, Arthur Lee Stephens and Hattie Mae Gentry Stephens; daughter, Dorris Roberta; son, James L. Jackson; grandson, Benton Luther Jackson; sisters, Elsie Harper, Albin Moody, Audeline Selcer and Macon Barker. She is survived by her beloved family, sons, Don (Bobbie Jean) Jackson, Wilmington, N.C. and Gilbert (Sharon) Jackson, Chattanooga; daughters, Genevieve (Marvin) Chastain; and Marilyn (Kennedy) Harrison; daughter-in-law, Dean (James) Jackson, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Ginger Jackson Pierson, Nancy Jackson Glascock, Donna Jackson Tartt, Deborah Jackson MacEwen, David Jackson, Stephen Chastain, Marsha Chastain Alvarez, Jeff Chastain, Jennifer Chastain Wells, Mary Harrison Kowal, Dr. Stephen Harrison, Edward Jackson,Lisa Jackson Thrasher; great-grandchildren, Ashley Alvarez Pearce, Courtney Alvarez Henry, Leslie Logan Wells, Chandler Wells Warren, Ryan Chastain, Randi Chastain, Molly Glascock, Christopher Glascock Jr., Monica Glascock, Katherine Harrison, Peter Harrison, Emily Harrison, Benton Takota Letterman, Eryn Virginia Letterman, Nathan Jackson, Ashley Jackson, Shannon Jackson, Army SPC Matthew Thrasher; Sharon McCorvie, Lillian Jackson, Hailey Jackson, Meredith MacEwen, Thomas MacEwen IV,Adam Tartt, Amy Tartt; great-great-grandchildren; Penelope Pearce, Cayden Henry, Wyatt Henry, Madison Henry, Amelia Thrasher, Thomas Thrasher, Andrew Thrasher, Natalie McCorvie; Rylee McCorvie; Ashley Harris; Shannon Jackson, Nathan Jackson, Addison Tartt, Caroline Tartt; Aiden Tyler Jesser, Isabelle Jackson and Gabriel Jackson. Margaret Ann Knox, 68, of Chattanooga went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 9, 2014. She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Tyner High School and retired from T.V.A. in 2005 after more than 32 years of service as a Secretary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Franklin and Ellen Knox Sr. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Lee and (Barbara) Knox, of Manchester, Tenn.; nephews, David Nichols, Jerry Beaton and David Beaton ; and niece, Melita Daugherty. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
