Suspect Arrested in Van Theft Investigation
CORPUS CHRISTI - Police have arrested Juan Carlos Rodriguez, 48, as a suspect in the theft of a minivan from the Walmart Service Center lot this past Saturday.Authorities say Crime Stoppers tips lead officers to a home on Horne Road where they were able to arrest Rodriguez and recover the stolen Dodge Caravan.Rodriguez was already wanted for violating his probation on a theft charge. Online court records show he has several past arrests for theft.On Saturday, a 66-year-old man left his van in line for an oil change at the Walmart in Parkdale Plaza. Thief Takes Van from Walmart Service Center Lot
CORPUS CHRISTI - A man is wanted for taking a man's minivan from the service line for the Walmart in Parkdale Plaza this past Saturday morning.According to police, the 66-year-old owner of the van left the keys in the ignition as he waited for an oil change.The thief decided to just hop in the driver's seat and take off. Take a look at the surveillance videos and help police track him down.He's an older Hispanic male, 5'10' tall, about 220 lbs. Three Family Members Busted with 45 lbs of Pot
JIM WELLS COUNTY - A traffic stop near Alice resulted in the seizure of 45 pounds of marijuana and the arrests of three family members this morning.The Jim Wells County Sheriff's Department says a K9 officer caught a whiff of the marijuana inside the car, so they took a closer look.The dope was concealed in a hidden compartment beneath the back seats.Eleazar Vela Jr, 28, Maria Elena Vela, 49, and Jeanette Vela, 23, are all charged with possession of marijuana.We're told the mother, son, and daughter are from McAllen. Permalink| Comments

55 lbs of Marijuana Seized in Drug Raid
CORPUS CHRISTI - The combined efforts of the Corpus Christi Police Department and the Department of Public Safety resulted in 55 lbs of marijuana being taken off the city's streets this Sunday.Authorities say they used a K-9 unit to find 45 lbs. of marijuana in a truck parked in the 4400 block of Bluefield. A search of the home turned up another 10.5 lbs of marijuana and 38 grams of cocaine, according to police.Three men in the home were arrested. Miguel Roman, 29, Juan Vera, 35, and Sergio Gonzales, 30, are all charged with felony possession of marijuana.Investigators say they also seized three vehicles, digital scales, packaging materials, and electronic media from the home. Permalink| Comments

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS - Memorial Day events begin Saturday in Wise County. Let Freedom Ring is 11 a.m. Saturday at Elm Creek Park in Alvord. The Alvord High School band will perform, and there will be National Guard and fire department equipment on display. Speakers include Bill Cleveland, pastor of First Baptist Church in Alvord; Phil Bloomer, retired military; and Jim Bloomer, who is currently serving in the military. Free hot dogs will be served, and desserts will be sold to benefit the Alvord Library Fund. A roll call to honor all past and present veterans is at 1 p.m. Brick forms will also be available. For more information, call Vic Czerniak at (817) 253-0493 or Ron Taylor at (940) 389-1820. A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rhome Veteran's Park. A festival at the Family Park starts at noon and will feature free hot dogs, drinks, live entertainment and a bounce house. Snow cones will be sold. The Wise County Veterans Group will conduct its annual Memorial Day program 10 a.m. Monday at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park, 406 N. Trinity, in Decatur. Guest speaker is U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry, and special recognition will be given to World War II veterans in the group.
