Oil City Brass Works building is demolished
A demolition contractor began carting away the remnants of the former Oil City Brass Works building, at Crockett and Neches streets, the one that organizers of the Children's Museum had looked upon as a possible home. The property is adjacent to the all-access park for children with disabilities, built by the Rotary Club of Beaumont, which donated it to the city last year in celebration of the club's centennial.

David Crockett Brings the DRT History Trunk to Blanco Elementary (School)
Marilyn Beasley and Langston Hunter with library book donationIn celebration of Texas History Month, fourth graders at Blanco Elementary were visited by David Crockett of Tennessee. Crockett had with him his Traveling History Trunk filled with items and replicas dating back to the time of the Republic of Texas. The Trunk, provided by The Daughters of The Republic of Texas (DRT), contains items such as: cooking utensils, dried food items, water gourds, toys and games, cloth doll, candle mold, powder horn, pioneer dress, cone sugar, block tea, corn cob pipe, sewing items, Indian skirt, and Republic currency. The trunk was used by fourth grade teachers at Blanco Elementary as a teaching tool. Marilyn Beasley (Crockett), member of the Moon-McGehee Chapter, DRT, spoke to the students on why Americans and Europeans came to Texas; how they came to Texas; what they brought with them; how they survived; the battles for independence from Mexico; and the contributions of Tejanos to Texas independence. The chapter donated to the school library the book: Remember the Alamo---Texians, Tejanos, and Mexicans Tell Their Stories by Paul Robert Walker and published by National Geographic, Washington, DC.
