Born:  Sun, 10/17/1943 Died:  Tue, 04/08/2014 Funeral:  Fri, 04/11/2014 - 1:00pm Location:  White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford Funeral Home:  White's Funeral Home Weatherford, 817-596-4811 Robbie Jean Benton, 70, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in Weatherford. Funeral is set for 1 p.m. Friday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens of the Valley, 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Robbie Jean McDougle Benton was born Oct. 17, 1943, in Fort Worth, daughter of the late Thurman Robert and Verna Jean Lewis McDougle. She graduated from Birdville High School and married Billy Bob "Bud" Benton Jr. in 1969. Robbie loved music and fast, but nice, cars. She always drove a very nice car and took great pride in them. Robbie was a hard worker and retired from Lockheed Martin after many dedicated years of service. She was crowned Miss Haltom City and was the runner-up in the Miss Texas Pageant. Robbie lived a fast life and loved Las Vegas and Louisiana. Robbie was a longtime member of Aledo Church of Christ. Robbie was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Bob "Bud" Benton Jr. Survivors include sons, Robert Benton and Daren Benton, and wife, Cathy; grandson, Matthew Hutchison all of Weatherford; brothers, Thurman McDougle and wife, Sue, of Hudson Oaks and Ronnie McDougle and wife, Debbie, of Rockwall; aunts, Frances Adams of North Richland Hills and Delilah Phillips of Weatherford; uncle, Buddy Lewis of Granbury; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.

Holliday Band Director recognized
Melanie Hadderton, Holliday ISD Band Director, was recently elected to membership in Phi Beta Mu, an International School Bandmaster Fraternity.  Phi Beta Mu is a honorary, non-political, non-profit fraternity established in 1938.  There are approximately 350 active members in Texas with additional chapters in most of the 50 states as well as Canada, Japan, and Europe. Mrs. Hadderton was inducted at the annual new member’s breakfast on February 15, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas.  She was sponsored by Greg Miller, Iowa Park, Sheryl Kingcade, Iowa Park, and Dee Tucker, Haltom City.  In order to be considered for membership in Phi Beta Mu, one must have at least 10 years of successful teaching experience and must have produced and maintained an outstanding and consistent band program in the public schools. Mrs. Hadderton’s teaching experienced consists of 19 years with Wichita Falls High School and 9 years with Holliday ISD.  Congratulations to Mrs. Hadderton.

Among its goals are to ensure that all public improvements are designed and built in accordance with City standards and accepted engineering and construction practices. In 2009 the Haltom City Public Works Department was awarded full accreditation by the American Public Works Association, and joins the City of Plano as the second public works department in Texas to have earned this prestigious award (55th in North America).

Haltom City Planning/Zoning/Code Enforcement
The Planning Department provides a focal point of all development within the City by providing coordination between the members of the community/developer and various City departments. The Planning Department prepares and submits land use related reports to the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments. The Planning Department is primarily responsible for administering all land use related ordinances and statutes in adherence to the policies established by the City Council while employing such managerial techniques needed to assure efficient utilization of the City's resources. The Haltom City Building Inspection & Code Compliance Division strives to maintain updated regulations that provide for safety and appropriate access to all buildings in Haltom City. The division provides an effective program for timely reviewing, inspecting and permitting of construction, renovation and occupancy of all buildings and their appurtenances. Fair and impartial treatment is given to all citizens, builders, contractors and developers. The division also determines code compliance and responds to citizen code complaints. Planning & Zoning meets on 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Zoning Board of Adjustments (ZBA) meets on 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings are held at the City Hall Municipal Complex, 5024 Broadway Ave.
