BPD assisting with escort of fallen Prisoners of War
Two American Heroes , will begin their long-awaited journey home on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.  The remains of United States Army Korean War P.O.W.’s  Cpl. William Aaron Newton and  Jerry P. Craig will be escorted by various law enforcement agencies and Patriot Guard riders when their plane lands at 7:12 a.m. at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas.   From there, The Patriot Guard Riders will escort the procession as they depart at approximately 7:45 a.m. The procession will travel Will Clayton Parkway to FM 1960 to Dayton, HWY 90 to Beaumont and then onto I.H. 10 East. The procession will split in Beaumont at the Eastex Freeway/I.H. 10 interchange.   From that point, P.O.W. Craig will be escorted by the Beaumont Police Department and Vernon Parish Sheriffs Deputies to Lake Charles, La. where arrangements are being handled by Labbey Funeral Home in Leesville, LA.  P.O.W. Newton will be escorted by the Beaumont Police Department to Broussard's Mortuary in Kountze.  Cpl. Newton's only child, 62 year old Diana Bullock, works for Lumberton Independent School District. In honor of Newton and Bullock, the procession will travel North on HWY 96 (passing Lumberton Early Childhood School) to East Candlestick, (passing Lumberton Middle School) Rt. on E. Candlestick to Old Silsbee Highway (passing Lumberton Primary School), Rt. on Raider Lane back to Hwy 96. The procession will then travel South on HWY 96 to FM 421 to HWY 69. The procession will go North on HWY 69 passing the Lumberton Elementary School and Lumberton High School. The procession will continue North on HWY 69 and then left on HWY 326 to Broussard's Mortuary.  Detective Crystal Holmes is the Police Department point of contact for this detail.   Estimated times of arrival are as follows: Beaumont City Limits at 9:15 a.m. Lumberton City Limits at 9:30 a.m. Kountze City Limits at 9:55 a.m.  These are estimations only. Location updates will be provided to the media as they become available.  Graveside services for Cpl. William Aaron Newton will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Pine Ridge Cemetery, HWY 421, Sour Lake, Texas.  Citizens are encouraged to line the route of the procession to honor the service and sacrifice of these two American Heroes.   Sgt.
