SINTON - A man who gave a big smile for his mug shot is jailed on drug charges after someone called in a tip to authorities in San Patricio County.According to deputies, 23-year-old Eddie Tamez was caught with 40 packages of synthetic marijuana and other unidentified drugs. SAN PATRICIO COUNTY - A Portland man accused of holding up two convenience stores this summer surrendered this morning.Marcus Andrew Ortiz is facing one charge of aggravated robbery with a $50,000 bond.Authorities in Gregory and Portland say he robbed a Stripes and Snappy Food within hours of each other on July 23rd.It took some time for police to nail down a suspect based on fingerprints left on a cash box. Permalink| Comments

Armed Robber Threatens Two Convenience Store Clerks
PORTLAND - Police in Portland and Gregory are looking for an armed robber who hit two places within a few hours of each other last night.The guy with a gun first struck the Snappy's convience store on Moore Avenue in Portland. Police say he had the gun wrapped up in some type of orange cloth as he threatened the clerk. He also wore a grey zip-up hoodie, a black cloth over his face, black shorts, and grey sneakers.A few hours later, a man with the same description came into the Stripes in Gregory. He threatened the clerk by claiming to know who he was and where he lived.Surveillance video from the Gregory hold-up shows the robber was only in the store for 30 seconds.The gunman is described as a Hispanic male, around 5' 6' to 5'8' tall.If you know anything about these robberies, call the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office at 361-364-9600. Permalink| Comments
