Dayton, Latest Questions and Answers
Q: How much debt does the City of Dayton have on its books?
by Rick66
A:Look for the department within the local city government which would have the information. All government data is not readily available online, or even at the physical location. You may have to make an FOIA, freedom of information act request. City budgets are public records but the statutes are not clear as to how easy they should be to obtain. I believe that they can not be cost prohibitive, or prohibitive in general. Journalists and concerned citizen groups, just to name a couple, find it necessary to make an official FOIA request, and when that does not work, they go to court and have it enforced. Two places you can look on your own are newspapers which published a report about the city’s budget, which is not the most reliable source as it can be skewed or have data omitted. The other method is looking up any court records which contain the city’s name and budgets. Both of these methods don’t have a high probability of offering the data, but it can be worth checking before making a formal request.

by unclebud2013
A:Libraries local to the area can have columns on micro-film or digitally recorded. Some of their services can be found online. Librarians assist many on researching and narrowing down where to look and save you time. Most services are not online so going to the physical location may be the only access. Narrowing down a time frame is helpful when looking up this type of information.
