Eli Lopiccola, 41, no fixed address, was arrested on a charge of assault upon a medical technician. An assault is an attempt, with the ability to carry out, an injury to another person. Alternative Sleeping Location | Battery; Vandalism; Vandalism, vehicle 2:34 a.m. A guest at the ASL threw trashcans and chairs within the facility and kicked sleepers. A 15-year-old boy from Fullerton was taken to the police station for curfew violation and later released to a family member. S. Coast Hwy | 400 Block | Shoplifting 2:45 p.m. A female about 19, with her hair in a bun wearing a pink tank top and light colored jeans and a male about the same age wearing a green trucker’s hat, walked out of a store without paying for swimwear. Loss: $300. Skyline Drive | 1300 Block | Warrants 12:25 p.m. Brooke Susanne Monacell, 44, Laguna Beach, was arrested on two Harbor Court warrants. One with a charge of DUI and the other for being drunk in public. The court set total bail at $16,500. Police were called to her residence for a disturbance. Various Locations | Counterfeit 11:08 a.m. A bank reported that four retailers had been victimized with counterfeit $100 American Express Traveler’s Checks. Laguna Canyon Road | 2700 Block | Vandalism 9:38 a.m. 13 windows were shot out by an air soft pellet gun. It was later learned that a 19-year-old man had been taking shots at a target in his backyard with bad aim. The victim decided not to press charges when an offer of restitution was made. Aliso East Parking Lot | Warrants 7:12 a.m. Victorville resident Heradio Martinez-Martinez, 51, was arrested for three Harbor Court traffic warrants with total bail of $21,500. Monday, July 29 Cliff Drive | 300 Block | Drunk in Public 10:47 a.m. James Michael Nix, 56, no fixed address, was arrested for being drunk in public. Sunday, July 28 S. Coast Hwy & Moss Street | Drug Arrest, Juvenile 4:52 p.m. As the result of a consensual search during a traffic stop after an officer detected the odor of marijuana, a 17-year-old Oceanside boy was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of scales. He was later released to his mother at the police station.

Senior Sports Festival Celebrates 10th Anniversary
This month, hundreds of athletes, ranging in age from 50 to over 90, will come to Palm Desert to compete in the 10th Annual Palm Desert International Sports Festival and Senior Games. The festival, which will take place February 4 – 7, features competitions in track and field, swimming, golf, basketball, tennis, volleyball, softball, racquetball, bowling, lawn bowling, race walking, pickle ball, and soccer. Opening ceremonies will take place at The Living Desert on Friday, February 5. Cost is $10 for festival athletes and $15 for guests. Competition locations include College of the Desert, Desert Falls Country Club, Palm Desert High School, Joslyn Senior Center, Palm Desert Community Center, Hovley Soccer Park, Palm Desert Athletic Club, and the Palm Desert Golf Center.
