Lombard may decrease building permit fees
'RESIDENTS APPLYING FOR A BUILDING PERMIT IN LOMBARD MAY SEE SOME SAVINGS LATER THIS MONTH IF THE VILLAGE BOARD APPROVES REVISIONS TO THE BUILDING PERMIT FEE SCHEDULE. LOMBARD TRUSTEES WILL TAKE A FINAL VOTE APRIL 17 ON AN ORDINANCE THAT WOULD LOWER SOME FEES AND REMOVE A HANDFUL OF COSTS RELATED TO BUILDING PERMITS AND INSPECTION SERVICES. "WE WERE KIND OF DUE FOR A REVIEW," SAID WILLIAM HENIFF, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.'

Lombard turns down all proposals for new electricity rate
To ensure competitive electricity rates for residents, the Lombard village board rejected all proposals for new rates that were received by various electricity suppliers Thursday afternoon. "The pricing that we received today does not show any savings in comparison to the projected ComEd rates," said Village Manager Scott Niehaus. "We want to make sure that we have a lot of flexibity for our citizens and we're not going to lock them into a rate which ComEd might end up beating in the future."

Man convicted of running heroin ring
A suburban man was convicted of operating a heroin sales ring for nearly six years and using the proceeds to buy jewelry, cars and suburban properties. David Price, 34, was living in Brookfield at the time of his arrest, but federal prosecutors said he had lived in homes in Lombard, Country Club Hills, Darien and Bolingbrook at various times while he ran the heroin distribution ring.

Values, party division debated in 48th House race
48th House Rep. Sandra Pihos acknowledges that Republicans have let their varying philosophies create tension within the party. “We can’t let our differences divide us if we really want to take over in this state,” she said. Her challenger in the March 18 primary, Lombard Peter Breen, says the district needs a representative that will advocate the Republican set of principals and try to draw more followers in with it. “We don’t know what we stand for anymore and we could make some gains on that front,” he said.

Lombard's Deicke Home raising funds to stay open
After more than 30 years of serving adults with developmental disabilities, the Deicke Home in Lombard may be forced to close at the end of April due to financial trouble. Fundraising efforts are under way to keep the doors open at the home, which currently is occupied by 16 residents ages 25 to 71. "When you go there it is a true home," said volunteer Gina Demore. "It's not an institution. This is their home and these 16 residents, they're all family."
