Letter From the Mayor -October 2013
On September 9, the City Council heard a staff report about the need to replace the water/sewer meter transponders, which are attached to the 2500 water meters throughout City, and allows meter reading to be done remotely through a hand held receiver without having to go inside the building. In most cases, the reading is taken from street-side as a City employee drives by. The transponders, which were initially installed about 20 years ago, are wearing out. The City’s vendor, Badger Meter, no longer makes the version of transponder the City uses. It was hoped that the replacement process would not have had to start until next fiscal year, but given the increasing number of old transponders currently being replaced, the City is going to have to start this project in the next few months.
