EducationAlexander DelGiorno, son of Tracy Knecht of Wadsworth, was one of six Bethany College students and three faculty members to receive funding through the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium. He is a senior majoring in chemistry.The National Academy of Inventors named Darrell Reneker, distinguished professor of polymer science at the University of Akron, a fellow for 2013. He is among 143 inventors nationwide named as fellows this year. Reneker has 24 U.S. patents to his name and is internationally recognized as a leader in polymer nanofiber electrospinning.Two Malone University students in the Department of Natural Sciences received $500 research grants from the national office of Sigma Zeta: Christopher Himes, a senior chemistry major from Dalton, and Jonathan Miller, a senior chemistry major from Uhrichsville. Sigma Zeta is a national honor society for students in natural sciences, math and computer science.Hiram College President Tom Chema was appointed to a bipartisan task force on government regulation of higher education by the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. The group will examine the effect of federal regulations and reporting requirements on colleges and universities.Hannah Mills, a senior at Firestone High, won $200 for first place in the 2013 Akron Comicon art contest sponsored by Blue Line Pro.
