Oklahoma City, Latest Questions and Answers
Q: How do I find marriage records / divorce records from around 1940 in OKC
by Alan Smith
A:A record this far back in history is usually archived and would be most likely not found from the county clerk. There may be fees associated with obtaining detailed information about ancestry, however, some services offer small bits of information such as just the complete date and name of other party in the divorce for example. This is for verification that you are requesting the record on the right person before placing the order. You get the verification free and then most likely pay for the rest of the information. Another approach would be the local periodicals of that time. These are held at the library local to the area. Many of the services from the library are outlined online without having to visit their physical location.

Q: What are the laws in regard to background checks in Oklahoma?
by tom
A:When looking into conducting background check or a search for history of criminal convictions, the service, specially from the state will tend to stay within the law. You can see the law here Oklahoma Statutes Citationized http://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=80289. You can request a search from the Oklahoma state bureau of investigation. This online service provides a name or fingerprint search. A search based on the subject's name is not as accurate as a fingerprint search since names are not unique to each individual, you can narrow and identify the person you are looking up with additional information such as the DOB, middle name and other criteria the database can use http://www.ok.gov/osbi/Criminal_History/

Gov. Mary Fallin: President Obama’s Minimum Wage Hike Ignores Economic Reality
OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin today issued the following statement regarding her opposition to President Obama’s plan to increase the national minimum wage from $7.25/hour to $10.10/hour. Fallin released the statement after signing Senate Bill 1023, a bill that ensures municipalities in Oklahoma cannot mandate a minimum wage higher than the national rate. “President Obama and the Democratic Party are advocating for an increase in the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10. They believe that on this issue, like on so many others, the government can just mandate prosperity and growth with no consideration of economic reality. Now they are taking that fight to Oklahoma, urging their liberal allies to push for mandatory wage increases. “President Obama and his Oklahoma surrogates say they want to raise the minimum wage to reduce poverty. They are ignoring the fact that most minimum wage workers are young, single people working part

SBA Denies Governor’s Assistance Request for Businesses Affected by Bridge Closure
OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin today "expressed disappointment" with the notification from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) that her request was denied for an economic injury declaration for businesses that continue to be impacted by the closure of the James C. Nance Memorial Bridge between Purcell and Lexington. The governor requested the declaration for Cleveland and McClain counties on April 7. Approval would have allowed business owners in McClain and Cleveland counties to apply for federally subsidized loans. The SBA denial letter states that the Jan. 31, 2014 bridge closure does not meet the definition of a disaster declaration, which is identified in the Small Business Act as “a sudden event which causes severe damage.” SBA does not offer an appeal process for the economic injury disaster loan program. “I am extremely disappointed in SBA’s decision to deny economic injury

Governor Mary Fallin Signs Extension of Aerospace Engineers Tax Credit
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Governor Mary Fallin today signed into law a bill extending tax incentives to employers and employees in the aerospace industry. HB 2509 will extend the sunset date on the aerospace engineer employee and employer tax credit and the employer credit for tuition reimbursement until January 1, 2018. It also clarifies the definition of “qualified employee” to address an issue with previous aerospace interns being unable to access the credit once they have received their engineering degree. “The aerospace engineer tax credit has helped to create hundreds of new, high paying jobs for skilled Oklahomans,” said Fallin. “It’s also played a key role in maintaining Oklahoma’s position as an internationally recognized hub for aerospace business.”  Over 500 aerospace-related companies are located in Oklahoma, providing 144,000 direct and indirect jobs with an average salary of $56,000.
