Maudie Marie Layne, 90, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Mrs. Layne was born and raised in Buladean, N.C. She was a member of Delray Baptist Church, retired as a teachers aide in Chattanooga and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She especially adored her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick M. Layne; parents, Rexter and Manervie Street; sisters, Pearl Moffitt, Stella Will, Mae Davis and Laudia Hicks; and brothers, Carter, Finn, Dexter, Lee, Ralph and Clell Street. She is survived by her daughter, Joann Lane, Hixson; sons, Darrell (Frankie) Bidwell, Marietta, Ga. and Michael Bidwell, Harrison; six grandchildren, Stacey Skinner, Kimberly Bishop, Mark Lane, Lindsay Simmons, Tambra Hickman and Steven Bidwell; 10 great-grandchildren; special niece, Brenda Williams and several other nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Peggy Carlisle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 24, 2014, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Eaves officiating. Obituary for Richard Lamerand Sr.
Richard Keith Lamerand Sr., of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. He was 65 years old. Richard received his Engineering degree from the University of Michigan Tech. He was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Richard was a Professor at Chattanooga State Technical College before moving to Arizona State University and then returned to Chattanooga State where he taught Engineering Tech. Richard is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Rita Beasley Lamerand; children, Lori (Rickey) Fine, Mary (Matt) Malone and Richard Lamerand, Jr.; mother, Evelyn Manzini; brothers, Jim Lamerand and John Manzini; two nieces. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the North Chapel. Services for Richard will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Obituary for Stewart McLeod
Stewart McLeod, 85, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at his residence. He was born in White Springs, Fla., and grew up in Ellaville, Ga. He graduated from North Georgia Military College with a degree in chemistry. He was commissioned in the United States Army and received pilots training in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in research and sales with Dow Chemical Co. He was past president of the Bal Harbor Homeowners Association and a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, LaMartine Varnadoe McLeod and Christine Stewart McLeod; his brother, Larry V. McLeod; and grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. L.G. Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Powell McLeod; sons, Michael (Melissa) McLeod, of Courtland, Ohio, Scott (Traci) McLeod, of Suwanee, Ga.; and daughter Nancy McLeod (Tom) Cherry, of Cumming Ga.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, at St. John United Methodist Church, located at 3921 Murray Hills Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416. Visitation will begin at noon and the service will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice. Obituary for Kelly Allmon
Kelly L. Allmon, 84, passed away at his Hixson home on Tuesday, April 23, 2014. Kelly graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Allmon retired from Allmon Trucking. He was a member of the John Henry Pierce Lodge, the Alhambra Shrine, and his beloved Red Fez Club. He was also a charter member of the OPossum Creek Shrine Club. Mr. Allmon loved being a Shriner. He drove crippled and burned children to hospitals for treatment, with over 100,000 safe miles, before stopping. Survivors include his wife of 50 plus years, Betty Evans Allmon; sons, Mitchell (Mary) and Michael Todd (Donna); grandchildren, Mitch and Melissa; and three great-granddaughters. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 p.m. today and from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Obituary for Renee Monroe
Renee Card Monroe, 60, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014, along with her precious grandchildren, Reagan and Jaxson Cohen. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Renee was an active member of Eastwood Baptist Church where she helped lead a small Bible study group. Mrs. Monroe was an entrepreneur in Home Dcor with Merchants on Main and The Galleries at Southside. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at UTC. Renee was first and foremost a wife, Momma and Nana. Her loving touch knew no bounds, reaching out to those in need as she had been a generous supporter of many local ministries. She brightened the lives and filled the hearts of all who knew her. She was a creative, joyful servant of Jesus. She was a heavenly treasure and a Proverbs 31 woman. No one who knew her ever doubted how much she loved them and she left this world a far better and richer place than she found it. Her friends and family hold tight to the hope we have in our Savior Jesus Christ that she is rejoicing in heaven and someday we will be rejoicing with her. Renee is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charlie Monroe; her daughters, Tiffany (Keith) Askew, Apison, and Rachel (Brian) Cohen, Jericho, N.Y.; her sons, Zach (Emily) Monroe and Lucas (Kelly) Monroe, both of Chattanooga; her parents, Roy and Virginia Card, Chattanooga; two brothers, Brian (Terry) Card, Elder Mountain and Brad (Paula) Card, Hixson; eight grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Woodland Park Baptist Church with Bill Spencer officiating. A private family burial will be held.
