Obituary for Richard McBride
Richard James McBride, 60, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Richard was a selfless man of vibrant faith who loved and served his family, church and community. Richard retired from the police department in Dunedin, Fla. He worked more than 10 years as an investigator in the Special Investigation Unit for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Richard was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and a former member of St. Stephens Catholic Church. He was third degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and was involved in RCIA. Richard is a veteran of the United States Army. Richard was preceded in death by his father, James Edward McBride. Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn McBride; sons, James and Jeremiah McBride; daughter, Jennifer McBride Cook; mother, Jacqueline McBride; siblings, Chris Dobey, Cindy Pike, Tim McBride, Colleen Hurley; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The receiving of friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. A funeral Mass for Richard will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Soddy-Daisy. Private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Richard's name to Holy Spirit Catholic Church and/or to Catholic Charities. Obituary for Peggie Pickett
Peggie Moon Pickett, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A native of Piedmont, Ala., Peggie was a daughter of the late Paul Everett and Mildred Coffia Moon. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1955 and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Peggie retired from Red Bank Baptist Church, having spent more than 20 years as the church secretary. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, then Red Bank Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and Memorial Hospital. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Leon Thurman Pickett; children, Kim (Russell) Cantrell, Missy (Lance) Smith, Allison (Jim) Gifford, and Rusty Pickett; grandchildren, Emily (Adam) Watkins, Annie Smith, Parker and Peyton Cantrell and Haden Lamance; brothers, Ken (Justine) Moon, Don Moon, and Rick (Cindy) Moon; and a sister, Paulette Amsler. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Red Bank Baptist Church Library or Avalon Hospice. Faith Vinette Gilliam, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Alexian Brothers Nursing Home on Signal Mountain. She was born March 2, 1928 in Ohio. Faith was preceded in death by her parents, George and Irene Hensley; her guardians, Luther and Esther Lee Stokes; her brothers, Franklin Hensley, the Rev. J.R. Hensley and Hilman Hensley; her sisters, Bessie Jane Hensley, Mae Maria Hixson, Katie Pearl Dunn, Rosa Frances Harden and Esther Lee Stokes. Faith is survived by her brother, Loyal Hensley, of Ohio; her sisters, Vinette Caldwell, of Nashville, and Jean Potts, of Tennessee; her caregiver, LaCreta Simmons; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Williamson &amp; Sons Funeral Home with Bishop Mitch McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Potts Cemetery on Flat Top Mountain. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A special thanks to Alexian Brothers Pace Program and Alexian Brothers Nursing Home on Signal Mountain for all their generous and loving care. Patricia Sue &amp;quot;Patsy&amp;quot; Magrath Phillips passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Red Bank Life Care. She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Aug. 28, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Richard Hardy and Susie Greenwood Magrath. Survivors include her husband, Paul C. Phillips Jr., of Chattanooga; daughter, Sue Phillips (Roy) Wilcox, of Forest, Va.; sons, Christopher Magrath (Libby) Phillips, of Chattanooga, Dick (Alicia) Phillips, of Chattanooga, and Paul Hardy Darring, of Atlanta. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Ashley Lauren Wilcox, Brian Christopher Wilcox, Amber Nicole Phillips, Kayla Danielle Phillips and Landon Chase Phillips. Patsy attended the University of Illinois where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon. Patsy also served as area leader for 30 years for Recovery Inc, which is a self-help mental health organization. She served as volunteer at Erlanger Hospital and the Community Kitchen. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with Rev. Clayton Thomas officiating. Visitation hours will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Chattanooga Alzheimers Association or Rivermont Presbyterian Church.
