Alma Dorena Hale, 70, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Memorial Hospital. A longtime resident of Rhea County, she was a seamstress and was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Bledsoe County High School. She was preceded in death by son, Teddy Hale; parents, Victor Alexander and Ella Standifer Ewton; two brothers, Huel Wilson and Jim Foster Ewton. Survivors include daughter, Cindy Gailor, Dayton; daughter-in-law, Karen Hale, Dayton; five grandchildren, Tedra Riley, Daniel Hale, James Gailor, Ray and Darius Fugate; great-grandson, Cameron Riley; two sisters, Alvarena (Don Wayne) Thomas, Sale Creek, Tenn., Helen (Alton) Graham, Dunlap, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Lewis Cemetery, Pikeville, Tenn. with the Rev. Terry Bolton officiating. Visitation 5 to 9 p.m. today at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home. Ronny loved fishing and trail riding with his brother, daughter, and granddaughter, and friends, and attending Lady Vol Basketball games. Ronny was preceded in death by mother, Effie Summers Farmer; father, Claude Sunmiers; step-father, Sam Farmer; brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth, Eddy, and Jerry Summers. Survivors include wife of 36 years, Linda Blye Summers; dauther, Kelly (Chad) Hughey; granddaughters, Ella and Elynn Hughey; sister, Tina Brown (Dave) Goodland; brother, Bobby (Olline) Summers. Service will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Brother Steven Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sumner City Cemetery. Obituary for Betty Curtis
Betty Jean Curtis, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was born and raised in Pikeville, Tenn. and had lived the past fifty years in Chattanooga where she raised and cheered for her children and grandchildren in every event imaginable. She was a Christ follower and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise McReynolds Scarborough and James Scarborough; and one daughter, Nancy Noblit. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Reynolds (Jim), of Chattanooga; her son, Ed Curtis (Jennifer), of Naperville, Ill.; her pride and joy grandchildren, Neve Trumpeter (Kevin), Jack Noblit (Amber), Taylor and Chase Morgan, Jay, Alex, Jack, and Sam Reynolds, Bailey, Hannah, and Chapman Curtis; her brother, Jim Scarborough, of Chattanooga; and many other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 28, in Pikeville, Tenn. at Pikeville Cemetery with Albert Roberts officiating. Thanks to the many doctors, nurses, care givers, and friends that have cared for Betty over the last three years during her battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Orange Grove Center of Chattanooga or Hospice of Chattanooga.
