How Records Work in Missouri

Missouri's court and arrest records run across state, county/independent-city, and arresting-agency levels. The state judiciary under the Supreme Court of Missouri maintains court records through Case.net. Missouri State Highway Patrol CJIS Division holds statewide criminal history — unusually for a state, Missouri's Highway Patrol is the designated records agency rather than a separate bureau of investigation. Most local records — deeds, marriage licenses, Circuit Court filings — are held at the county level.

Missouri has 115 county-level jurisdictions: 114 counties plus the independent City of St. Louis, which is constitutionally separate from any county (St. Louis County is its own jurisdiction surrounding but not including the City). This independent-city structure trips up people who don't realize St. Louis City and St. Louis County are distinct jurisdictions with separate courts, clerks, sheriffs, and agencies. Case.net's statewide coverage includes both, but you need to know which jurisdiction your case is in.

Missouri has 114 counties plus the independent City of St. Louis = 115 county-level jurisdictions. Select one below to find local court, arrest, and court and arrest records.

What this page does not show: Not every record is online. While Case.net provides strong statewide coverage, older records and specialized filings may require a Circuit Clerk's office visit. Remember that the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County are separate jurisdictions — records for one are not available at the other. When in doubt, call the agency directly.

This page is a guide to help you find official records — it is not the official database. All information comes from government sources. Verify details directly with the agency that holds the records.
